End of year comments for the NWEAC Team

As the year comes to a close in the most difficult economic period in a long time,
I wanted to take a moment to thank our leadership team and welcome our new colleagues.

2011 was a watershed year for NWEAC and our 14 Municipalities:
• We created a new modern set of By-Laws and have applied for 501c3 status
• We prepared for the innovative Energize program in transition from the Town of Bedford
• We endorsed, supported and are working with SWEAC our neighbors to the South
• We received a WCF Grant used to fund a Land Use seminar series for selected Municipality leadership
• We executed a NYSERDA Grant to produce GHG Emissions and CAPs for a number of our communities
• We are preparing for a County-wide Sustainability Conference in March
• We are helping individual members to develop their own sustainability plans
• We led a successful NYSERDA Grant initiative to develop a Regional Planning system for 7 counties in the Mid-Hudson Region
• We advanced our prospects in micro-grid, Electric Vehicles, cooperative purchase of renewable energy, etc.
• We did this and more and closed the year with a positive fund balance

In short, we have established an excellent platform upon which to grow while producing value for our residents and businesses as outlined in our mission statement.
2012 looks like it will be a year of accelerated value creation and our hope is that we can attract more participants from your teams to share in the excitement.

50 Residents of Somers attended the innaugural Sustainability Forum in Somers on December 7, 2011.
We have collected a number of good ideas that will form the basis of our Sustainability Plan and will be vetted by having the community analyze and comment about the initiatives.
